Lt. Col. Daniel L. Davis (ret)

Lt. Col. Daniel L. Davis (ret.) is a retired United States Army officer and foreign policy analyst known for his role as a military whistleblower in the post-9/11 era. Davis served 21 years in the U.S. Army, completing four combat deployments, including Operation Desert Storm, where he earned the Bronze Star Medal for valor during the Battle of 73 Easting, as well as two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, for which he received an additional Bronze Star. He holds a bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University and a master's degree in international relations from Troy University.

Following his second deployment to Afghanistan, Davis identified a significant gap between official accounts of the war and the realities on the ground. He authored two reports—one classified and submitted to Congress, and one unclassified—detailing discrepancies between official statements and actual conditions. Davis also wrote the article "Truth, Lies, and Afghanistan: How Military Leaders Have Let Us Down," published by Armed Forces Journal, which received national coverage in New York Times, Time, and NPR. The Project on Government Oversight cited Davis as an early public critic within the military regarding the Afghanistan War.

Davis faced professional risks for his disclosures, anticipating career consequences. Although he was not subjected to formal disciplinary action, he was reassigned to a marketing role producing recruitment videos until his retirement. Davis received the Ridenhour Prize for Truth-Telling for his report on the war.

Since retiring, Davis has become a senior fellow and military expert at Defense Priorities, contributing to defense and foreign policy analysis. He authored the book "Eleventh Hour in 2020 America: How America's Foreign Policy Got Jacked Up – and How the Next Administration Can Fix It" and hosts the "Daniel Davis Deep Dive" podcast, focusing on war, national security, and politics. His commentary and analysis have appeared in Washington Post, New York Times, Time, Newsweek, The Hill, Stars & Stripes, The Guardian, US News & World Report, Politico, and The National Interest.
