Jane Curtin

Jane Curtin is recognized for her enduring presence in television comedy. After studying drama at Northeastern University, Curtin began her career in improvisational comedy groups in Boston and New York City. She performed with the comedy group The Proposition until 1972 and co-wrote and starred in the off-Broadway play "Pretzels." Her early work in comedy led to a significant career in television.

Curtin became one of the original cast members of NBC's "Saturday Night Live," where she anchored the "Weekend Update" segment and portrayed characters such as Prymaat Conehead and Emily Litella. Her performances often featured a version of herself, establishing her reputation as a straight woman in comedy. Curtin's disciplined approach and comedic timing contributed to the show's success.

She later starred as Allie in the sitcom "Kate & Allie," which depicted two divorced women raising their children together. Her work on the show earned her two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Curtin also played Dr. Mary Albright in the comedy series "3rd Rock from the Sun," appearing in 137 episodes over six seasons.

Curtin reprised her "Saturday Night Live" character Prymaat Conehead in the film "Coneheads" and starred as Charlene in the TV movie trilogy "The Librarian: Quest for the Spear," "Return to King Solomon's Mines," and "Curse of the Judas Chalice." Her stage credits include appearances in "Candida," "Love Letters," "Noises Off," and "Our Town." Curtin's career spans television, film, and theater, reflecting her versatility in the entertainment industry.

As a member of the original cast of "Saturday Night Live," Curtin was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame. She has served as a U.S. Committee National Ambassador for UNICEF and participated in the "Jeopardy! Million Dollar Celebrity Invitational Finals," winning $250,000 for charity. Her roles in "Bupkis," "Little Five," and "The Residence" further demonstrate her ongoing contributions to television and comedy.
