Hikaru Nakamura

Hikaru Nakamura is a five-time U.S. Chess Champion and a prominent figure in the global chess community. Nakamura earned his grandmaster title at age 15, becoming the youngest American to achieve this distinction at the time, surpassing Bobby Fischer's record by three months. At age 10, he became the youngest player to earn the USCF Chess Master title.

Nakamura has established himself among the elite ranks of competitive chess, winning the U.S. Chess Championship five times. His tournament victories include the Tata Steel Invitational in Wijk-aan-Zee, Netherlands, a result praised by Garry Kasparov as a significant achievement for American chess. With a peak rating of 2816, Nakamura is tied as the tenth-highest-rated player in history. He has represented the United States at seven Chess Olympiads, earning a team gold medal and two team bronze medals, and has participated in three Candidates Tournaments, with notable finishes in each. Nakamura also holds the title of World Fischer Random Chess Champion.

Recognized as one of the world's top blitz and bullet chess players, Nakamura has won five consecutive Chess.com Speed Chess Championships, including a victory over Magnus Carlsen in the finals. He authored the book "Bullet Chess: One Minute to Mate," further establishing his expertise in speed chess. When FIDE introduced official rapid and blitz chess ratings, Nakamura ranked No. 1 in the world on both lists.

He began streaming on Twitch under the name GMHikaru, contributing to the surge in chess's online popularity. His Twitch and YouTube channels have amassed more than four million followers, making him a leading figure in online chess content creation. Nakamura has coached beginner players and provided lessons for PogChamps, an amateur tournament for Twitch streamers hosted by Chess.com. He also appeared as himself in season 5, episode 2 of the Showtime series "Billions."
