Charles Woodson is recognized as one of the most decorated and versatile players in American football history, distinguished by his achievement as the only defensive player to win the Heisman Trophy. While playing for the University of Michigan, Woodson earned unanimous All-American honors in the same season he claimed the Heisman Trophy, Walter Camp Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Chuck Bednarik Award, and Jim Thorpe Award. His versatility was evident as he finished second nationally with eight interceptions and also scored as a rusher, receiver, and punt returner. Woodson received 282 more voting points than runner-up Peyton Manning of Tennessee and led the Michigan Wolverines to an undefeated season and a share of the national championship.
Selected fourth overall in the NFL Draft, Woodson joined the Oakland Raiders' starting lineup immediately, intercepting five passes and forcing two fumbles to earn the AP Rookie of the Year Award. Over his 18-year NFL career with the Raiders and Green Bay Packers, Woodson played 254 regular-season games, totaled 65 interceptions—fifth best in league history—and led the NFL in interceptions twice, recording at least one interception every season. With the Green Bay Packers, Woodson won a Super Bowl, earned Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year honors, made four additional Pro Bowl appearances, and recorded 38 of his career interceptions. He returned three interceptions for touchdowns in one season on his way to receiving AP Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Woodson's career statistics include more than 1,200 tackles, 54 tackles for loss, 33 forced fumbles, and 183 passes defensed. He became the first player in NFL history to accumulate 50 interceptions and 20 sacks. Woodson is a three-time All-Pro, nine-time Pro Bowl selection, and a member of the NFL's All-Decade Team of the 2000s. He is one of only two players, along with Marcus Allen, to win a Heisman Trophy, AP Rookie of the Year Award, AP Player of the Year Award, and a Super Bowl title. Woodson has been inducted into both the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
After retiring from professional football, Woodson transitioned to roles as a broadcaster and entrepreneur. He joined ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown before moving to Fox Sports as a college football analyst and has served as an analyst for FOX NFL KICKOFF. Off the field, his Intercept by Charles Woodson wine label includes a Hall of Fame Cabernet Sauvignon, a Chardonnay, and a Red Blend, all rated in the 90s by Wine Enthusiast. Woodson has pledged over $2 million to the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and established the Charles Woodson Clinical Research Initiative to support research projects aimed at improving children's quality of life and longevity. From his Heisman Trophy win to his Hall of Fame career and post-football ventures in broadcasting, wine, and philanthropy, Woodson has maintained a significant presence in sports, media, and business.
