Belinda Jensen

Belinda Jensen is a retired KARE 11 anchor and meteorologist, and currently acts as brand ambassador for Kowalski's Markets, a high-end, European-styled grocery chain in Minnesota.

She is recognized for her extensive career as chief meteorologist at KARE 11, the NBC affiliate in Minneapolis–St. Paul. Jensen joined the station full time following roles with the National Weather Service and the ABC station in Salt Lake City, Utah, and later became chief meteorologist at KARE 11. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and has completed graduate work in secondary education at the University of Utah. Her academic background provided a foundation for translating atmospheric science into accessible weather reporting for viewers.

During her tenure at KARE 11, Jensen contributed to weather broadcasting and local news programming. Alongside colleague Bobby Jensen, she co-created "Grow With KARE," a sponsored franchise in local news. She also served as a feature reporter for "Minnesota Bound" and co-hosted the station's Saturday morning program. Jensen covered major events including the Olympics in Salt Lake, the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, and the Super Bowl in Minnesota. Her coverage of severe weather events established her as a trusted source for weather information in the Twin Cities region.

Jensen expanded her impact beyond television by creating the character Bel the Weather Girl, featured in a children's book series with titles such as "Weather Clues in the Sky: Clouds," "Spinning Wind and Water: Hurricanes," "A Snowstorm Shows Off: Blizzards," "Raindrops on a Roller Coaster: Hail," "A Party for Clouds: Thunderstorms," and "The Sky Stirs Up Trouble: Tornadoes." She has been involved in community outreach, particularly encouraging students and girls to pursue science education. Jensen holds the AMS Seal of Approval for broadcast meteorology, a professional certification in the field, and has received multiple Emmy awards for her work in weather broadcasting.

Jensen has supported nonprofit organizations through public appearances, including fundraising efforts for the ICA Food Shelf and serving as emcee for the annual "Humor to Fight the Tumor" event, which raises money for brain tumor research. After retiring from her full-time role at KARE 11, Jensen was inducted into the Minnesota Broadcasters Hall of Fame. She continues to promote science education and her "Bel the Weather Girl" book series, maintaining her commitment to weather education and community engagement.
