Brian Polian Biography

Brian Polian is a college football coach and administrator with a career spanning more than two decades at several major collegiate programs. Polian began his football career at John Carroll University, graduating after four years as a player and earning All-OAC Second Team honors. He played alongside College Football Hall of Fame member London Fletcher. After his playing days, Polian earned a master's degree in education from Baylor University.

Polian launched his coaching career at Michigan State, working as an offensive graduate assistant under coach Nick Saban. He held coaching positions at University of Buffalo, Baylor University, University of Central Florida, Stanford University, and Texas A&M. Before joining Nevada, Polian served as special teams coordinator at Notre Dame, where he coached standouts such as placekicker Justin Yoon, who set the program's record for career field goals and became the school's all-time leading scorer, and punter Tyler Newsome, who finished second in Notre Dame history for career punting average. Polian has been recognized as a top recruiter by media outlets including ESPN and Rivals.

As head coach of the Nevada Wolf Pack football team, Polian led the program to two bowl games and two victories over Power 5 opponents. He developed several future NFL players, including Browns guard Joel Bitonio and Panthers center Austin Corbett, as well as three future CFL players. Under his leadership, the Wolf Pack football program achieved a perfect 1,000 APR score, the only team in the Group of Five to do so during that season. After his tenure at Nevada, Polian worked at Louisiana State University as special teams coordinator and later as associate athletics director and general manager.

Polian currently serves as head football coach and athletic director for John Carroll University. In his administrative role, he has overseen the school's transition to the North Coast Athletic Conference, the addition of field hockey as John Carroll's 25th varsity sport, the development of the David Rastoka Athletic Hall of Fame in the Athletic, Wellness & Event Center, and the completion of the turfing of Schweickert & Bracken Field. As athletic director, Polian led the decision to move John Carroll out of the OAC and into the North Coast Athletic Conference, a move followed by the Blue Streaks winning the NCAC and earning an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III playoffs, where they advanced to the national semifinals.

Polian has served on the inaugural College Football Officials Competition Committee and the American Football Coaches Association Ethics Committee. He is the author of the book "Coaching Generation Z: Honor the Relationships." In addition to his work at John Carroll, Polian has contributed to local sports coverage, providing post-game analysis on the Browns throughout the football season. His experience as a player, coach, author, and administrator positions him as a knowledgeable figure in college football and athletic administration.
