Makeda N. Jones Biography

Makeda N. Jones, M.D.,D.Div is a board-certified psychiatrist with over 20 years of experience and is licensed in New York. Dr. Jones specializes in the treatment of child, adolescents, and adults. She has extensive experience with a wide range of mental health issues, including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, panic disorder, OCD, ADHD, PTSD, and the various disorders specific to patients below 18 years old. She works with patients of all genders, cultural backgrounds, and sexualities. Her practice includes medication management as well as psychotherapy. Dr. Jones has specialized interest working parents and children who have developmental disabilities and those involved with the law.

Dr. Jones’ approach to treatment includes providing a comprehensive evaluation of her patients' concerns, their family’s concerns, in collaborating with schools and any services provided to the patient to create a treatment plan that is tailored to the family and meets their needs.

Dr. Jones completed both her psychiatry residency and her first subspecialty fellowship in forensic psychiatry at the Montefiore Medical Center. She completed an additional subspecialty fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry. During her fellowship she completed additional training and is passionate about treating children with developmental disabilities specifically in treating autism spectrum disorder at the comprehensive evaluation program at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine.

Currently, Dr. Jones is the Medical Director of the substance use disorder and Mental Health Clinic at Ohel Children’s Home and Family Services in Brooklyn, NY. Prior to this, Dr. Jones served as the Clinical Lead of a juvenile detention center through NYU providing psychiatric services to youth involved in the law. During the pandemic, Dr. Jones was the Medical Director of the Psychiatric emergency room for Kings County Hospital where she provided care to individuals struggling with acute and emergency mental health concerns. Dr. Jones has held faculty appointments at New York University, SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Working within these multiple treatment settings have reinforced the values of collaboration, excellent communication, and patient-centered care.
