Jay W. Richards, Ph.D. Biography

Jay W. Richards, Ph.D., is an American analytical philosopher whose work focuses on the intersection of politics, philosophy, religion, and economics. Richards earned a doctorate in philosophy and theology from Princeton Theological Seminary, as well as a Master of Divinity and a Master of Theology. He serves as vice president of social and domestic policy and the William E. Simon senior research fellow in American principles and public policy at The Heritage Foundation. Richards is also a senior fellow at Discovery Institute.

Richards is author or editor of more than a dozen books, including the New York Times bestsellers "Infiltrated" and "Indivisible"; "The Human Advantage"; "Money, Greed, and God," which received a Templeton Enterprise Award; "The Hobbit Party" with Jonathan Witt; and "Eat, Fast, Feast." He co-authored "The Privileged Planet" with astronomer Guillermo Gonzalez, a work on cosmology and intelligent design that served as the basis for a television documentary. Richards has also collaborated with James Robison on "Fight the Good Fight: How an Alliance of Faith and Reason Can Win the Culture War."

Richards has contributed academic articles, books, and essays on topics including culture, economics, public policy, natural science, technology, and the environment. He is creator and executive producer of several documentaries, including "The Call of the Entrepreneur," "The Birth of Freedom," and "Effective Stewardship," with three airing widely on PBS. His articles and essays have appeared in Harvard Business Review, Wall Street Journal, Barron's, Washington Post, The New York Post, and Newsweek, among other publications.

Richards has appeared on numerous radio and television programs, including Larry King Live (CNN), CBS Evening News, MSNBC, Fox and Friends, and PBS, and is a regular guest on EWTN. He has spoken at academic conferences, college and university campuses in the United States, Europe, and Asia, think tanks, public policy meetings, and to members of Congress and congressional staff. Richards participated in a debate at Stanford University with Christopher Hitchens, moderated by Ben Stein, which was broadcast live to churches in North America. His work engages audiences across disciplines, including cosmology, theology, economics, and public policy.
