Jaya Baloo Biography

Jaya Baloo is a cybersecurity leader with more than two decades of experience in information security, secure network architecture, and quantum readiness. Baloo has been ranked among the top 100 CISOs and top 100 security influencers worldwide. She studied political science and international relations, while developing hands-on expertise in computing, which she later transformed into a professional career. Her early work included serving as an internet security trainer at Bankers Trust, focusing on export cryptography for high-net-worth clients.

Baloo's career includes roles at major organizations in the cybersecurity and telecommunications sectors. She served as CISO at KPN, the largest telecommunications carrier in the Netherlands, where she established and led the security team. Prior to that, she was Practice Lead Lawful Interception at Verizon and worked as a technical security specialist at France Telecom. While at KPN, Baloo chaired the Dutch Continuity Board, a collaborative initiative addressing denial-of-service cyberthreats by facilitating information sharing among competitors. She later held CISO and chief security officer roles at Avast Software and Rapid7, and co-founded her own venture. Baloo currently serves as COO and CISO at AISLE, a startup she co-founded.

Baloo is recognized for her expertise at the intersection of cybersecurity and quantum computing. She has served as vice chair for EU Quantum Flagship, contributed to the World Economic Forum on quantum and cybersecurity, and advised Europol's European Cybercrime Centre. Baloo advocates for organizations to prepare for quantum computing by adopting new protocols, increasing key lengths, using quantum key distribution, and exploring post-quantum cryptographic algorithms. She has presented at conferences including RSA, TEDx, and Codemotion on topics such as lawful interception, VoIP and mobile security, cryptography, and quantum communications networks.

Baloo has received recognition including the Cyber Security Executive of the Year award and was named one of the top 100 CISOs and one of the 100 Women Founders in Europe to Follow by Forbes. She holds an honorary doctorate from University of Twente for her leadership and contributions to cybersecurity. Inspiring Fifty also named her one of the fifty most inspiring women in the Netherlands.

As a faculty member at Singularity University and a board member for several information security organizations, Baloo combines academic insight with industry leadership. She serves on the advisory boards of the Netherlands National Cyber Security Centre, PQCrypto, and Flagship Strategic, contributing to cybersecurity policy and strategy. Baloo is known for translating complex technical threats, including telecom vulnerabilities and quantum computing risks, into actionable insights for the global cybersecurity community.
