Golf Broadcasting Leader & Former LPGA Star; Two-Time Major Champion; Lead Walking Reporter for CBS Sports
Dottie Pepper Biography
Dottie Pepper is a prominent figure in women's professional golf, recognized for her transition from a successful playing career to a significant role in sports broadcasting. After a distinguished junior, college, and amateur golf career, Pepper played 17 years on the LPGA Tour, securing 17 victories, including two major championships. She attended Furman University, where she earned five collegiate victories and was named All-American three times. Pepper was named LPGA Player of the Year and received the Vare Trophy Award for low-scoring average. Her two major titles were both achieved at the "Nabisco Dinah Shore" (now the Chevron Championship), and in one of those victories, she set a record with a 19-under par, the lowest score in relation to par at any LPGA Tour event.
Pepper represented the United States at the Solheim Cup six times, compiling an overall record of 13-5-2, and was part of the winning team as a player four times. Her aggressive play and mental toughness contributed to her consistent presence at tournaments and her ability to handle pressure. Injuries eventually curtailed her playing career, and while managing shoulder problems, she began a career in golf commentary, becoming a respected analyst in the sport.
After retiring from the LPGA Tour, Pepper pursued a television broadcasting career, first as the lead LPGA analyst for Golf Channel, then as an on-course announcer and analyst for NBC Sports, covering the LPGA, Champions, PGA Tour, PGA, and USGA events. She later joined CBS, where she replaced David Feherty. Pepper became the first TV reporter between the ropes at the Masters and now serves as the lead walking reporter for CBS Sports' coverage of the PGA Tour, bringing her extensive golf knowledge to the broadcast booth.
Pepper's contributions to golf have been recognized with several honors, including the William D. Richardson Award from the Golf Writers Association of America, induction into the New York State Golf Association Hall of Fame, the Old Tom Morris Award from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, and the Gold Tee Award from the Metropolitan Golf Writers Association.
Beyond broadcasting, Pepper is the author of "Letters to a Future Champion: My Time with Mr. Pulver," which pays tribute to her childhood golf mentor, George Pulver. She is also the co-author of three children's books in the "Bogey Tees Off" series, based on a mascot she created during her time with the PGA of America. Pepper has served on the PGA of America's Board of Directors and has been involved in various junior golf initiatives. Through her work in golf broadcasting, authorship, and advocacy, Pepper continues to be a leading voice in the sport.
