Andoni Aduriz Biography

Andoni Luis Aduriz, who began his career working in a pizzeria, is the mind and hands behind the Basque restaurant Mugariz, recognized by the British magazine Restaurant as the third best restaurant in the world (2012). Aduriz, who is among the few chefs who has received two Michelin Stars and three Campsa Suns, is one of the internationally regarded chefs who has focused more in the renewal and innovation in gastronomy.

In this sense, Aduriz has developed a fresh, imaginative technique which incorporates, among other things, a lot of flowers and wild plants due to his passion for botany. This interest in science adds to his love for literature, the visual arts and the relationship between music and gastronomy.

Mugaritz collaborates with the Instituto Ibermática de Innovación in the study of creativity in the restaurant industry, specially in the project MIRAC, a model that evaluates innovation in haute cuisine. Related to this framework, Aduriz has also taught several courses at the University of the Basque Country since 2005.

He is also member of the Board of Innobasque, a network which is joined by more than 600 people, as part of the entrepreneurship area, with other prominent personalities from the social, economic, scientific, technological and institutional arena of the Basque Country.

He's member of the board of Euro-Toques, the international organization of chefs; and he is member of the board at the magazine edited by this association: Kitchen Papers. He's also creator and promoter of the international conference Diálogos de Cocina and a member of the technical committee of Barcelona Vanguardia, the International Gastronomy Conference which is part of Alimentaria.
