Beth Heider is Senior Vice President of Green Markets for Skanska USA supporting the design and construction of high performance green/LEED projects throughout their lifecycle. Over her career, Heider has been responsible for the pre-construction management of large-scale multimillion-dollar construction programs.
As Chief Sustainability Officer, Heider ensures the goals of Skanska’s sustainability agenda are being met across Skanska’s four US businesses while serving on Skanska USA’s Management Team.
Her 35-year career encompasses all phases of design and construction from master planning through project closeout as architect, construction manager, cost manager and VE facilitator. She has presented papers on cost, value, eco-efficient building, and program management at some 150 international conferences. Heider has authored chapters in Building Security and Building Type Basics: Justice Facilities. She has a 12-year tenure with Skanska, primarily as Senior Vice President for Green Markets with Skanska USA Building.
In 2005, she founded Skanska USA’s Green Council which marshals all of Skanska’s sustainable preconstruction and construction capabilities nationwide, encourages and supports training and technical competency, coordinating sustainable expertise and information. From 2008 – 2013, she served on the US Green Building Council’s Board of Directors, in 2012 as Chair.
One of ten women named “pioneer in green building” by the Green Economy Post, Heider served for six years on USGBC’s national Board of Directors which she chaired in 2012. In 2013, she received Skanska’s global achievement award for green market making. She is an alumna of The University of Virginia and its Graduate Program in Venice, Italy.
From 1999 to 2004, she served as an Adjunct Professor at The Catholic University of America School of Engineering in Washington, DC where she taught Value Engineering.
