Ritter conceived, carried out, and participated in over a dozen of the thirty inspections, culminating in his being labeled a spy by Iraq and blocked from weapon sites by Iraqi officials.
Unwilling to accept the lack of official action against the Iraqi decision, Ritter ultimately resigned from UNSCOM, determining that Iraq did not possess weapons of mass destruction, while unearthing the true threats to international justice and global security surrounding U.S. policy. He proclaimed that the "illusion of arms control is more dangerous than no arms control at all."
His mission has always demanded strict adherence to the law and to the facts at issue whether the U.S. government wanted to hear it or not. To the U.S., he was a maverick, to Europe and other parts of the world, he was considered a soothsayer.
A former major in the U.S. Marines, Ritter established himself in his distinguished 12-year career in government service within the U.S. armed services, serving pivotal roles of leadership in the former Soviet Union and the Middle East, including working under General Norman Schwarzkopf with Marine Central Command headquarters in Saudi Arabia. A ballistic missile technology expert in military intelligence, he was awarded two classified commendations by the CIA for his timely, essential and accurate reports on Soviet disarmament and was the only analyst to correctly assess the capability of Scud missiles in Gulf War I.
A 100% right about Iraq when everyone else was wrong, Ritter knew when the U.S. would invade Iraq and predicted the outcomes with an accuracy that no one else achieved. His arguments shied away from politically motivated rhetoric, emphasizing sound analysis of the perils faced in the one of the most volatile regions of the globe, the Middle East. He now focuses his intelligence expertise and on-target analysis on Iran and the catastrophic implications of war with the fourth largest producer of oil in the world. His upcoming book, Target Iran, will fully illuminate the truth about this potentially devastating conflict.
Ritter is the best-selling author of Iraq Confidential: The Untold Story of the Intelligence Conspiracy to Undermine the UN and Overthrow Saddam Hussein, Frontier Justice: Weapons of Mass Destruction and the Bushwhacking of America, War on Iraq: What Team Bush Doesn't Want You to Know, and Endgame: Solving the Iraq Problem - Once and For All. His controversial documentary, Shifting Sands: The Truth about Unscom and the Disarming of Iraq, an account of the United Nations weapons inspection team and its frustrated efforts to ferret out Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction provided further insight into the U.S. and the situation in Iraq.
