Taking Off the Golden Handcuffs and Choosing Happy with Mitzi Miller
Miller shares her experience as the youngest editor-in-chief in the history of JET magazine, the country’s oldest African-American newsweekly, where she is at the forefront of stories that impact and interest the Black diaspora—from politics to entertainment. As a first-generation American of Panamanian heritage and proud alumna of Florida A&M University, the journalist also speaks to the Black immigrant experience and HBCU student life. In addition, Miller adds insight into the Black family and youth development as a board member of the Jack and Jill of America Foundation.
Following a diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis as a college student, Miller faced an uncertain future as her health waned. After 18 months on a wait list, she received a successful liver transplant. Miller has been an advocate for organ donation for the past 15 years. An engaging speaker, she discusses her life-altering journey as a transplant survivor.
