Acclaimed actress and singer Bellamy Young is known for her award-winning role as President Mellie Grant on ABC & Shonda Rhimes’ Peabody Award-winning series, "Scandal," opposite Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn. Bellamy’s critically-praised performance as the politically ambitious First Lady earned her a Best Supporting Actress statue from the Critics’ Choice Television Awards, Entertainment Weekly’s 25 Best Characters on TV, #15 on Entertainment Weekly’s 50 Best TV Scenes of the Year, NY Post’s Top 10 TV Actors and she earned TV Guide Magazine’s Fan Favorite Award.

After graduating from Yale with dual degrees in English and Theatre, Bellamy began her acting career on Broadway, starring in several shows including the original production of "The Life." She made her television debut in a recurring role on the Emmy Award-nominated NBC daytime soap opera "Another World" as Dr. Courtney Evans. Other noteworthy appearances have been "Law & Order," "The Drew Carey Show," "The X Files," "ER," "Frasier," "The West Wing," "NCIS," "Medium," "Grey's Anatomy," "Private Practice," "Two and a Half Men," "Supernatural," "Drop Dead Diva," and "Castle."

Her extensive television resume has included recurring roles on CBS’ long-running series "Criminal Minds" as Beth Clemmons alongside Paget Brewster and Jennifer Love Hewitt; ABC’s "Dirty Sexy Money" alongside Donald Sutherland; "American Dreams," "CSI: Miami," and alongside Zach Braff on the hit-comedy, "Scrubs."

Throughout her illustrious career, Bellamy has appeared beside some of Hollywood’s biggest hits such as Randall Wallace's "We Were Soldiers" with Mel Gibson, Madeleine Stowe and Greg Kinnear, and JJ Abrams' "Mission Impossible: III" alongside Tom Cruise, Laurence Fishburne, and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Bellamy also starred alongside Lou Diamond Phillips in the Lifetime movie, "The Night Stalker," based on serial killer Richard Ramirez.

In 2018, Bellamy acted in Disney’s family-friendly sci-fi adventure film "A Wrinkle in Time," directed by Ava DuVernay, where she starred in company with Oprah Winfrey, Chris Pine, Reese Witherspoon, Michael Pena, and Zach Galifianakis. Later in the year, her film "Bernard and Huey," based on satirist Jules Feiffer's cartoon characters, was released as well. In 2019, she starred in "Love & Debt," a comedy-drama about family and struggles alongside Tom Cavanagh and Bailee Madison.

A true music lover and accomplished singer, Bellamy released a musical album, Far Away So Close, featuring covers of her favorite songs. She also performed at the White House for President Obama and his family in the National Christmas Tree Lighting telecast with Andra Day and Kelsea Ballarini.

More recently, Bellamy starred in the Fox television series "Prodigal Son" and a movie reboot of T"he Waltons: Homecoming" as devoted mother Olivia Walton. In addition, she made an appearance on the 2021 "Fantasy Island" reboot and also starred in the hit ABC series "Promised Land," a drama focusing on a generation-spanning battle for wealth and power in California's Sonoma Valley between two Latinx families, as well as "A Walton's Thanksgiving" on The CW.

Coming up, Bellamy is set to star in Hulu's "The Other Black Girl," based on the New York Times bestselling book. She also debuted as an author in 2025, co-writing the YA novel, "The Aetherion Code: Book One: The Spark."
