Liz Plank Biography
Liz Plank is a Canadian journalist, author, and filmmaker known for her work in gender issues, feminism, and contemporary media. Plank began her career creating viral content on feminism during an internship at Mic.com, which led to roles as a senior producer and political correspondent at Vox Media. Before entering journalism, Plank worked at a community center for people with disabilities and served as a researcher and behavioral science consultant at the London School of Economics, where she earned a master's degree in policy with a focus on global gender politics. She also worked as a community counselor for people with developmental disabilities while attending McGill University, where she majored in women's studies and international development and received the Sheila Finestone Award for undergraduate achievement in women's studies.
At Vox Media, Plank was the host, creator, and executive producer of "Divided States of Women," a multimedia platform featuring a video series and podcasts. She also served as executive producer of Vox.com's Shorty Award-winning series "2016ish," which covered the presidential election and included interviews with figures such as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Michael Moore, Tony Goldwyn, Joss Whedon, and Hope Solo. Plank later hosted the journalism show "Positive Spin" at NBC News and became a columnist for MSNBC. Prior to her work at Vox, she was a senior correspondent at Mic and co-creator of "Flip The Script," a weekly video series addressing social issues.
Plank is the author of "For the Love of Men: A Vision for Mindful Masculinity," a book that explores modern masculinity and has been featured in publications including Vogue, Esquire, Playboy, ELLE, and GQ, as well as covered by NPR, The Washington Post, and MSNBC. The book was inspired by her TEDx Talk, "How to Be a Man: A Woman's Guide." She is also the creator of the podcast "Boy Problems," which addresses questions about men and gender, produced by Katie Couric.
Plank's journalism has been recognized by Forbes' 30 Under 30 list, Mediaite's Most Influential in News Media, Marie Claire's Most Powerful Women, and Apolitical's World's Most Influential People in Gender Policy. She regularly appears on national and international television programs to provide analysis on politics, gender issues, and reproductive rights, including The Today Show, The Daily Show, MSNBC, Fox News, ABC News, and BBC World. Through her reporting and creative projects, Plank focuses on elevating underrepresented voices in media and advancing conversations about gender and social justice.
