Conrad Humphreys is an inspirational team leader and world-class British yachtsman, as well as a renowned personality in the south-west and on the international sailing scene.
Conrad has raced around the world in three different races. Despite only being in his thirties, he has already crammed a lifetime of adventure and achievement into his life enduring some of the most hostile oceans of the world. From his early days and throughout his career, Conrad has shown his vision and ability to lead and inspire teams. He was just 28 years old when he led his team LG Flatron to the finish of the BT Global Challenge in 1st place and is the youngest skipper in the history of the race to win The Worlds Toughest Yacht Race.
Conrad attributes this success to the winning attitude cultivated within the team, the driving philosophies being winning is infectious and self-belief is everything. The book Inspiring Leadership : Staying Afloat in Turbulent Times was based on the research from this race, in which Conrads leadership style and teams qualities are referred to throughout the publication.
Conrad competed in the non-stop solo round-the-world Vendee Globe yacht race. When his yachts rudder was broken following a collision with a floating object in the water - many thought his race was over however Conrads single-minded determination saw him make his way back up the fleet finishing in 7th place after 104 days racing alone at sea. His story has been described as one of the most remarkable comebacks in the history of the event. Conrad was awarded an Honorary Masters Degree following his Vendee Globe race.
