The Band of Heathens is an Austin-based roots-rock/Americana band formed in 2005 when singer-songwriters Ed Jurdi, Gordy Quist, and Colin Brooks began melding their talents during weekly sets at Momo’s. A newspaper misprint batched them together as “The Heathens,” and the rest is history.
Known for their energetic live performances and dual-lead vocals, the band earned early acclaim with live albums Live from Momo’s and Live at Antone’s, and their self-titled 2008 debut topped the Americana charts and snagged a Top‑10 year-end spot. They’ve remained proudly independent, releasing seven additional studio albums—including One Foot in the Ether, Sunday Morning Record, and 2023’s critically acclaimed Simple Things, which blends rock, blues, soul, and folk with heartfelt songwriting. The band’s commitment to ownership, live‑on‑stage evolution, and deep musical chemistry has garnered them a fiercely loyal fanbase, national TV exposure, and frequent Americana chart success, earning them a reputation as one of modern roots music’s hardest-working and most authentic acts.
