Shivani Siroya, an accomplished entrepreneur, is the founder and CEO of Tala, a smartphone lending application that extends credit scores and microloans to underrepresented markets. Under her leadership, Tala has distributed over $225 million in microloans as of 2018 and secured $65 million in funding in April 2018 from investors like Female Founders Fund, Lowercase Capital, and Revolution Capital.
Prior to her venture with Tala, Siroya held noteworthy positions in several prestigious organizations. Her background includes working for the UN Population Fund and holding positions at Citi, UBS, and Credit Suisse with a focus on microfinance. Further boosting her credentials, Siroya has an M.P.H. in Health Economics and Policy from Columbia University and a B.A. in International Relations from Wesleyan University.
In recognition of her contributions to bridging the financial gap in underrepresented markets, Siroya has received commendations from various quarters. She was nominated as a Wired Icon by Melinda Gates in 2018 and was named an Ashoka Fellow in 2013 for her innovative solutions to social problems.
