Rowan Atkinson

Rowan Atkinson CBE is an English actor, comedian and writer recognized for his work in television, film and theater. Atkinson is known for playing the title roles in the sitcoms "Blackadder" and "Mr. Bean," as well as in the film series "Johnny English."

Atkinson gained prominence through the BBC sketch comedy show "Not the Nine O'Clock News," earning the British Academy Television Award for Best Entertainment Performance. His film credits include appearances in the James Bond film "Never Say Never Again," portraying a vicar in "Four Weddings and a Funeral," voicing Zazu in "The Lion King," and playing jewelry salesman Rufus in "Love Actually." Atkinson also appeared in the BBC sitcom "The Thin Blue Line" and played the lead character in ITV's "Maigret." He created and starred in the Netflix series "Man vs. Bee" and appeared in the film "Wonka." His theater work includes the role of Fagin in the West End revival of the musical "Oliver!"

Atkinson has been recognized by The Observer as one of the 50 funniest actors in British comedy and was ranked among the top 50 comedians in a poll of fellow comedians. Throughout his career, Atkinson has collaborated with screenwriter Richard Curtis and composer Howard Goodall, both of whom he met at the Oxford University Dramatic Society. In addition to his BAFTA, Atkinson received an Olivier Award for his West End performance in "Rowan Atkinson in Revue." He was appointed CBE in the Birthday Honours for services to drama and charity.
