Rob Stringer

Rob Stringer serves as chairman of Sony Music Group and CEO of Sony Music Entertainment, overseeing global strategies and operations for one of the world's largest music publishing and recorded music companies. Sony Music Entertainment's record labels include Arista Records, Columbia Records, Epic Records, Legacy Recordings, Masterworks, RCA Records, Sony Music Latin, and Sony Music Nashville, representing a diverse range of music genres worldwide.

Stringer began his career at CBS Records as a graduate trainee, later becoming managing director of Epic Records UK and then chairman of Sony Music UK. He has worked with artists such as The Clash, Sade, George Michael, and Oasis. Following Sony Music's joint venture with BMG, Stringer was named chairman of Sony BMG Music UK, then promoted to chairman of the U.S.-based Sony Music Label Group, and subsequently appointed chairman of Columbia Records after Sony acquired BMG's share of the joint venture. His signings at Columbia include MGMT, One Direction, and Adele. During his tenure, Columbia released albums such as "25" by Adele, "Lemonade" by Beyoncé, and "Blackstar" by David Bowie, with whom Stringer worked closely.

After a decade at Columbia Records, Stringer became CEO of Sony Music, overseeing significant growth in recorded music and streaming revenues. He was later named chairman of Sony Music Group in addition to his CEO role. Under his leadership, Sony Music announced it would share proceeds from the sale of its Spotify holdings with artists and distributed labels, regardless of unrecouped balances. Stringer also implemented the Artists Forward and Songwriters Forward programs to enhance earnings opportunities for artists and songwriters. He played a key role in launching Sony Corp's Social Justice Fund to support global social justice and anti-racist initiatives.

Stringer was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for contributions to the British music business, charitable work, and efforts to address discrimination. He received the GRAMMY Salute To Industry Icons award for leadership and innovation in the music industry and appeared at No. 2 on the Billboard Power 100. His honors also include UJA's Music Visionary of the Year, the Clive Davis Visionary Award from Billboard magazine, and the Music Industry Trusts award.
