Parminder Nagra

Parminder Nagra is a British actress whose career spans stage, film, and television in both the United Kingdom and the United States. Nagra began her acting journey in theater, moving from Leicester to London and working with companies such as Tara Arts and Tamasha. She appeared in British television productions, including the medical drama "Casualty." Nagra also took on roles for Channel 4, portraying Viola/Cesario in a multicultural adaptation of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" and Heere Sharma in the two-part Anglo-Indian drama "Second Generation," which is loosely based on "King Lear." Her performance in "Second Generation" earned her an Ethnic Multicultural Media Academy Award.

Nagra played the lead role in Gurinder Chadha's comedy-drama "Bend It Like Beckham," which served as her breakthrough film. She portrayed Jesminder Bhamra, a teenage Sikh football player who challenges traditional expectations to pursue her passion for football. The film achieved critical and commercial success in the United Kingdom and internationally, earning over $30 million at the box office. She was cast as Dr. Neela Rasgotra and became the show's longest-serving cast member, appearing from season ten through the series finale. Abrams-produced sci-fi drama "Alcatraz," the suspense thriller "The Blacklist," and the teen drama "13 Reasons Why." She also appeared in the Netflix horror film "Bird Box." Her television credits include Meera Malik in the first season of the NBC crime drama "The Blacklist" and a recurring role as Ellen Nadeer in the ABC/Marvel series "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Nagra starred as the lead character in the ITV series "DI Ray," returning to British television and establishing her as a prominent dramatic actress in both markets.

Nagra received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters from the University of Leicester in recognition of her contributions to the arts and her influence within her community.
