Mother Mother

Mother Mother is a Canadian indie rock band originating from Quadra Island, British Columbia. The group was founded by guitarist and vocalist Ryan Guldemond, who aimed to create a band centered on vocal-driven pop songs. Guldemond recruited his sister Molly Guldemond and a college friend to form an acoustic trio, which later expanded into a five-member ensemble. The current lineup includes Ryan Guldemond on guitar and vocals, Molly Guldemond and Jasmin Parkin on vocals and keyboards, Ali Siadat on drums, and Mike Young on bass. This configuration contributes to the band's signature layered, multi-voiced sound.

Mother Mother gained early recognition when the Vancouver Province named them one of the top five British Columbia bands to watch. The band performed at a nationally broadcast concert opening for K'naan and the Wailin' Jennys and secured a slot at the sold-out Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

After signing a four-album deal with Last Gang Records, the band changed its name from Mother to Mother Mother and re-released its debut album as "Touch Up." Their second album, "O My Heart," established their reputation for melodically rich indie rock. Subsequent releases, including "Eureka," "The Sticks," "Very Good Bad Thing," "No Culture," and "Dance and Cry," showcased the band's evolving sound and creative exploration. The Toronto Star described their music as evolving into orchestral harmonies and hip hop-influenced power ballads. Their song "Bright Idea" was featured in a nationally broadcast Kraft Foods television campaign, introducing their music to mainstream Canadian audiences.

Mother Mother experienced a resurgence in popularity when songs from "O My Heart," such as "Hayloft," "Arms Tonite," "Wrecking Ball," and "Burning Pile," gained traction on TikTok. These tracks resonated with non-binary and LGBTQ+ Gen-Z communities, who embraced them as anthems of self-discovery. The hashtag #mothermother garnered hundreds of millions of views, and the band appeared on late-night television, including interviews with James Corden. Ryan Guldemond has noted the significance of the band's music serving as a soundtrack for journeys of self-discovery.

Mother Mother released the album "Inside" on Warner Brothers Music, reuniting with producer Howard Redekopp. The album was followed by an extensive tour across Canada and internationally. The band continued with "Grief Chapter" and embarked on a joint tour with Cavetown across Europe and the United States, expanding their international presence. With more than 10 studio albums, four live albums, and numerous singles, Mother Mother is recognized as a prominent Canadian indie rock band known for its authenticity, emotional depth, and enduring appeal.
