Matthew Macfadyen

Matthew Macfadyen is an English actor known for his acclaimed performances on stage and screen. He gained prominence for his role as Mr. Darcy in Joe Wright's Pride & Prejudice, for which a bust was created in his likeness. Macfadyen's body of work includes films such as Death at a Funeral, Frost/Nixon, Anna Karenina, The Assistant, and Operation Mincemeat. His film debut can be traced back to Enigma in 2001, and his performance in In My Father's Den earned him the New Zealand Screen Award for Best Actor.

Macfadyen's television career began in 1998 when he portrayed Hareton Earnshaw in "Wuthering Heights." He has since then appeared in various TV shows, including the BBC One spy series "Spooks," where he played Tom Quinn, and the mystery series "Ripper Street," where he depicted Inspector Edmund Reid. Macfadyen's later TV work includes his roles as Henry Wilcox in "Howards End," "Quiz," and "Stonehouse." His performance in "Quiz" was connected to a notable historical event, the controversial coughing cheat scandal on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" in 2001.

He has received numerous accolades for his work, including a Golden Globe Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and two BAFTA Television Awards. In 2022, he won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Tom Wambsgans in the HBO drama series "Succession." In the same series, he earned two more Primetime Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor - Television in 2024. Additionally, he won the RTS Programme Award for Best Performance by a Male Actor in 2008. Beyond film and television, Macfadyen has also been a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
