
Currently in his third season as the head coach of the Boston Celtics, Joe Mazzulla guided the team to the 2024 NBA Championship with a 16-3 postseason record for the second-highest playoff winning percentage (.842) in the NBA since the first round expanded to a best-of-seven series in 2002-03.
Mazzulla led the Celtics to their 18th NBA championship for the most titles in NBA history. Mazzulla became the youngest head coach to win the NBA Finals since the 1968-69 season, when 35-year-old Bill Russell led the Celtics to the NBA championship as a player-coach.
In his first two seasons at the helm, Mazzulla compiled a 121-43 regular season record for a .738 winning percentage and went 27-12 (69.2 WP) in the playoffs.
Boston collected their NBA-record 14th 60-win season with a 64-18 record during the 2023-24 season, marking the second time since 1989 the C's registered at least 57 wins in consecutive seasons. In his short tenure, Mazzulla's accolades include being named the 2023 NBA All-Star Head Coach and earning Eastern Conference Coach of the Month four times.
A native of Johnston, R.I., Mazzulla is currently in his sixth season overall with the organization after spending three years as an assistant coach and has also served as an assistant coach for the Maine Red Claws of the NBA G League.
He was named the 19th head coach in franchise history on February 16, 2023.
Prior to joining the Celtics organization, Mazzulla was the head coach at Fairmont State and amassed a 43-17 record in his two seasons leading the Fighting Falcons. A former West Virginia University standout, Mazzulla spent five years coaching at the NCAA Division Il level.
Mazzulla began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Glenville State where he helped develop two All-WVIAC honorees and a pair of all-freshman team honorees in just two seasons.
Mazzulla played four collegiate seasons at West Virginia University for head coaches John Beilein and Bob Huggins. His teams made four straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Final Four berth in 2010.
Mazzulla won a Big East Tournament Championship and NIT Tournament Championship at WVU. He excelled in the classroom, earning Big East Academic All-Star Team honors three times (2007, 2009, 2010).
Mazzulla and his wife Camai have two children.
