Gugu Mbatha-Raw

Gugu Mbatha-Raw is a British actress known for her work across stage, film, and television. Mbatha-Raw began her training at the National Youth Music Theatre and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, earning early recognition for her performances as Juliet in "Romeo and Juliet" and Octavia in "Antony and Cleopatra" at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester. She later played Ophelia in the Donmar Warehouse production of "Hamlet" opposite Jude Law, performing in both London's West End and on Broadway.

Mbatha-Raw had a breakthrough with the British period drama film "Belle," for which she won the BIFA for Best Actress. She went on to star in the romantic drama "Beyond the Lights" opposite Nate Parker, earning a nomination for Best Actress at the Gotham Awards. She was also nominated for a BAFTA Rising Star Award. Her film credits include "Concussion" with Will Smith, "Free State of Jones" with Matthew McConaughey, and the political drama "Miss Sloane."

On television, Mbatha-Raw co-starred in the Emmy Award-winning "Black Mirror" episode "San Junipero." For her performance as the title character in Jessica Swale's play "Nell Gwynn," Mbatha-Raw received an Evening Standard Theatre Award nomination. She appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair Hollywood issue alongside Jane Fonda, Viola Davis, Cate Blanchett, and Jennifer Lawrence. Mbatha-Raw was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for services to drama and was named a global Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
