Ed O’Neill

Ed O’Neill is an Emmy Award-nominated actor whose career has spanned more than five decades across television, film, and stage. Best known for his iconic roles as Al Bundy on the groundbreaking sitcom "Married… with Children" and Jay Pritchett on the award-winning comedy series "Modern Family," O’Neill has become one of the most recognizable and beloved comedic actors in American television history.

Born in Youngstown, Ohio, O’Neill initially pursued a career in education and professional football before turning his focus to acting. He studied theater at Youngstown State University and later trained at the renowned Youngblood Theatre Company in Michigan. His early stage work led to television and film opportunities, including his breakthrough role in "Married… with Children," which premiered in 1987 and helped redefine the modern sitcom. As the sarcastic yet endearing patriarch Al Bundy, O’Neill earned widespread acclaim and became a defining television presence for more than a decade.

In 2009, O’Neill returned to television with "Modern Family" portraying Jay Pritchett, the wise, gruff, and ultimately warmhearted family patriarch. The series became a cultural phenomenon, winning multiple Emmy Awards for Outstanding Comedy Series, and O’Neill received multiple Emmy nominations for his performance.

O’Neill has appeared in numerous films, including "Dutch," "Wayne’s World," 'Little Giants," ;The Bone Collector,' and 'Finding Dory,' in which he voiced the character Hank the septopus. He has also made memorable guest appearances on series such as "The West Wing,' "Entourage," and "Family Guy.'

Off-screen, O’Neill is known for his dedication to Brazilian jiu-jitsu, a discipline he has practiced for decades under the guidance of martial arts legend Rorion Gracie.
