Winters began his career after a chance encounter led him to acting classes, making his television debut on "Homicide: Life on the Street." His early breakthrough came when writer-producer Tom Fontana cast him as Ryan O'Reily on HBO's prison drama "Oz," a role that established Winters as a dramatic presence and led to further opportunities in high-profile television series.

After "Oz," Winters expanded his range with roles on FX's firefighter drama "Rescue Me," portraying an NYPD detective, and as Detective Brian Cassidy on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He also appeared on "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" and gained recognition for his comedic performance as Dennis Duffy on NBC's "30 Rock." Winters' work on "30 Rock" earned him critical attention and highlighted his versatility as an actor. His film credits include "P.S.
