Benny Safdie

Benny Safdie has carved a dynamic career in the film industry, both behind and in front of the camera. His notable contributions as a director include "Heaven Knows What," "Good Time," and "Uncut Gems," all co-directed with his brother Josh Safdie. Safdie has also displayed his acting prowess in films such as "Licorice Pizza," "Oppenheimer," "Happy Gilmore 2," and "The Odyssey." His directorial talents are also showcased in the 2025 film, "The Smashing Machine," starring Dwayne Johnson.

In addition to his film work, Safdie has made his mark on television. He co-created, co-wrote, and starred in the Showtime series "The Curse." He also appeared in the Disney+ miniseries "Obi-Wan Kenobi." His performances have earned him recognition; he secured an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Supporting Performance in a New Scripted Series for "The Curse."

Safdie and his brother won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Director for "Uncut Gems," and they shared the Independent Spirit Award for Best Editing for the same film. Along with Ronald Bronstein and Josh Safdie, Benny won the Florida Film Critics Circle Award for Best Original Screenplay in 2019. His editing skills were further recognized with an Austin Film Critics Association Award for Best Film Editing in 2019.
