Detailed Biography of Dave Blaney
|
|
Blaney is most famous for his sprint car exploits as well as other success on dirt tracks. For many years, he was a regular in the Syracuse Nationals in Syracuse, New York, although he never won that event.Blaney made his Winston Cup debut in the #80 Ford owned by Stan Hover of Fowler, Ohio at the 1992 Daytona 500, finishing 31st. Six years later, he caught the eye of Bill Davis of Bill Davis Racing, and he signed to drive a Busch Series car for Davis, the #93 Amoco(Blaney's WoO trademark) Pontiac. His debut season was impressive, as he garned three sixth-place finishes and a pole position at Lowe's Motor Speedway. 1999 was even better, when his pole total rose to four and he climbed up to seventh place in the final points standings. In 2000, he and his Amoco team moved up to Winston Cup, posting two-top tens and finishing third in the NASCAR Winston Cup Rookie of the Year award standings. After coming close to victory in 2001, he left BDR because of sponsorship concerns and signed with #77 Ford provided by Jasper Motorsports. Blaney had a total of nine top tens and a pole in this ride, but he never got to victory lane. After being unemployed for the first half of 2004, he hooked on with Richard Childress Racing late in the year, before being replaced by Jeff Burton. He came back at the end of the season to take over the #07 ride. He owns Sharon Speedway (named after nearby Sharon, Pennsylvania) in Hartford Township, Ohio.
