Cindy Cheung Biography
In her last year of school, she saw a flyer for a no-experience-required college theater group and her destiny was forever changed. Turning down a job offer to work as a software engineer for Grumann Aircraft upon graduation, she began studying and performing all over Los Angeles. As she became more involved with the business, she craved a time to focus solely on the craft of acting and moved to San Francisco where she earned her MFA from A.C.T.
In New York, Cheung and five friends formed Mr. Miyagi’s Theatre Company, most recently seen Off-Broadway in their hilarious show, Sides: The Fear Is Real…, about painful and embarrassing audition situations. The New York Times review called her a “standout,” saying she “holds nothing back in her over-the-top performances.” She also began appearing in indie films such as the highly acclaimed Robot Stories and the Tribeca Film Festival feature Falling For Grace, and featured TV roles (mostly as nurses) in shows such as Sex And The City, Jonny Zero and Law and Order: Criminal Intent.
In June 2005, she was cast on the spot by M. Night Shyamalan for a leading role in Lady In The Water, starring Paul Giamatti and Bryce Dallas Howard. She has since been able to leave her finance specialist job of five years and pursue acting full-time. Most recently, she played opposite Malcolm McDowell as a guest lead on Law and Order: Criminal Intent, and completed filming the Fox pilot Julie Reno: Bounty Hunter, starring Erin Daniels and Annie Potts.
