Romona Robinson Biography

Romona Robinson is a television journalist, author, and motivational speaker whose three-decade career in Cleveland broadcasting established her as a prominent anchor in Northeast Ohio. Robinson became the first African American woman to anchor a nightly newscast in Cleveland and the first solo anchor of a weeknight newscast in the city. She appeared on weeknight newscasts for WUAB Channel 43, NBC affiliate WKYC Channel 3, and CBS affiliate WOIO Channel 19. Robinson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in broadcast journalism from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri.

During her career, Robinson covered significant figures and events, including an exclusive interview with President Barack Obama, as well as coverage of Nelson Mandela and President Ronald Reagan. She is an eight-time recipient of the Lower Great Lakes Emmy Award and received the Edward R. Murrow Award, along with co-anchor Denise Dufala, for breaking news coverage of the Ariel Castro kidnappings in Cleveland. Robinson was inducted into The Press Club of Cleveland Journalism Hall of Fame, the Ohio Broadcasters Hall of Fame, and the Cleveland Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

Robinson is the founder of Romona's Kids, an Emmy-nominated television program in Cleveland created to empower and encourage youth. She served as honorary chair of the Komen Race for the Cure for 21 years. Robinson has received the Alpha Woman Award, the Kent State University Diversity in Media Distinguished Leadership Award, and the Woman of Achievement Award from the YWCA of Greater Cleveland.

After leaving television, Robinson became an author and speaker, publishing three books: "A Dirt Road to Somewhere," "Your Voice is Your Power," and "Poor Girl, Rich Life." "A Dirt Road to Somewhere" recounts Robinson's journey from growing up in Missouri to becoming a leading news anchor in Cleveland. "Your Voice is Your Power" explores how faith helped Robinson overcome challenges and build a successful career in broadcast journalism. "Poor Girl, Rich Life" encourages readers to examine the financial influences that shape their relationship with money.
