Pat Pearson Biography

Liz Pearson is a Registered Dietitian, Award-Winning Professional Speaker and Bestselling Author. Her approach to healthy eating is sane and sensible. Pearson’s mission is to translate the often-confusing and ever-changing science of healthy eating into practical, commonsense advice that people can follow in their busy lives.

Pearson’s first book, When in Doubt, Eat Broccoli! (but leave some room for chocolate) received outstanding reviews from consumers and health professionals alike. Her second book, The Ultimate Healthy Eating Plan (that still leaves room for chocolate!) was a National Bestseller and won a North American award for best book in the health/nutrition category. Liz’s newest book, Ultimate Foods for Ultimate Health (and don’t forget the chocolate!) sold out as soon as it hit bookstore shelves. This National Bestseller also won a prestigious gold award from Cuisine Canada for excellence in nutrition writing and recipes.

Pearson is well known and respected by the media.  She has been featured in newspapers and magazines across Canada, and appears regularly on radio and television. She did a weekly segment on CBC News World and has appeared on shows such as Canada AM, Breakfast Television, City TV, Health on the Line, More to Life, Daytime, CBC Radio and 680 News.  She also wrote a regular nutrition column for Chatelaine magazine for many years.

Liz received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition from Ryerson University and completed her internship at the Toronto General Hospital.

Liz has a passion for peanut butter sandwiches, an undying love for chocolate and also loves to dance (let’s just say she gives Ellen DeGeneres a run for her money).

  1. Avoiding Dietary Villains & Choosing Nutritional All-Stars

We live in a fast-paced, hectic world. For many people eating on the run, skipping meals and frozen dinners are a way of life. The result is often a nutritional catastrophe – a diet filled with harmful ingredients that are damaging to health. Salt has been called one of the deadliest ingredients in the food supply. Too much saturated fat increases not just the risk of a heart attack, but the severity as well. Trans fats are nasty and some organizations believe sugary foods, like soft drinks, are so detrimental to health they should carry warning labels. A busy lifestyle, however, is no excuse for a lousy diet. This seminar is about avoiding dietary villains and choosing nutritional all-stars. You'll find out what foods to eat more of and what foods to eat less of. You'll get the latest research on disease-fighting superstars like blueberries, pomegranate juice, broccoli, green tea and dark chocolate. The information is sensible and it's definitely doable. It's full of label reading guidance, fast food survival tips, best dining out options, snacking recommendations and more. It makes meal planning easy and serves up great advice for the supermarket.

Bottom line: this enlightening, fun and oh-so-revealing seminar makes it easy (and delicious!) to avoid dietary villains and choose nutritional all-stars, even in a hectic world.

Here's just some of the information covered in the seminar:

·Healthy eating tips when you're time-starved and exhausted ·Sodium landmines: top tips for reducing the salt in your diet ·Avoiding trans fats & limiting saturated fats ·Sugar: how sweet it is and isn't ·Label reading savvy - quick tips for every aisle ·Getting kids to eat healthy ·Healthy snacking on the run ·Liquid calories and waistline expansion ·Pitfalls of desktop and dashboard dining ·Healthy cereal checklist ·Powerhouse fruits & vegetables ·Organic foods - are they worth the money? ·Do canned and frozen fruits and vegetables really deliver? ·The health protective power of herbs & spices ·Fish – it's supposed to be good for you, but is it safe to eat? ·Is soy a miracle food or have we been mislead? ·Superfoods for the brain – which ones qualify? ·Nuts & Seeds: the best of the best list ·Caffeine: how much is too much? ·Alcohol: the Jekyll and Hyde of preventive medicine ·The best advice for achieving a healthy body weight ·Aging & Food – can you turn back the clock? ·Can you get what you need from food or must your pop a pill? ·Leaving room for chocolate!

  1. Feeding Kids Healthy Foods in an Unhealthy World

Early signs of heart disease are now being seen in children as young as seven years of age. Type 2 diabetes – a disease caused by poor eating habits and lack of physical activity – is striking growing numbers of youth around the globe. Many researchers believe we are witnessing the first generation of children ever that will have a lower life expectancy than that of their parents. If ever there was a seminar that all parents should attend – this is the one. Children and teens today are growing up in an environment filled with fast food, soft drinks and gigantic portion sizes. Disease prevention should start in childhood. Good eating habits established in the early years form the basis of good eating habits later in life. Parents really can make a difference and have a responsibility to do so.

Bottom line: this eye-opening and engaging seminar is packed with simple advice and useful ideas that help kids eat healthy in an unhealthy world.

Here's just some of the information covered in the seminar: ·The most overlooked influence on kids eating habits
