The National Parks Biography

The National Parks is an American indie folk-pop band based in Provo, Utah, centered around the creative direction of frontman Brady Parks. The group originated when Parks began composing acoustic-driven narrative folk songs while attending Brigham Young University. After several lineup changes, the band adopted the name The National Parks and made its public debut. The band is recognized for its folk-pop sound, drawing inspiration from nature, adventure, and the American outdoors, and blending acoustic instrumentation with themes of love, loss, and exploration.

The band's debut album, "Young," marked their entry into the indie folk-pop scene. Recorded at June Audio with producer Scott Wiley, the album reached No. 13 on the iTunes singer/songwriter chart. The National Parks also released the single "As We Ran," written for the documentary film "Love in the Tetons," with proceeds from the first month benefiting the National Parks Conservation Association. The release of "Helsinki," which premiered on NPR's All Songs Considered, brought international attention to the band. Their second album, "Until I Live," was released independently, reaching No. 52 on the iTunes Pop Chart and No. 5 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers Chart for the Mountain Region, and increasing Spotify streams to more than 2.5 million. The lead single, "Monsters of the North," was recognized as the winner of the International Songwriting Competition.

The National Parks continued to gain recognition and expand their live audience. The band was named Utah's Band of the Year by Salt Lake City Weekly and performed at an event for the National Parks Conservation Association alongside writer Terry Tempest Williams. The group has been compared to acts such as Foster the People, The Civil Wars, and Mumford & Sons, and has shared the stage with Andy Grammer, Peter Bjorn and John, The Lone Bellow, LeAnn Rimes, and The Moth & The Flame. The National Parks has performed at South by Southwest, Canadian Music Week, School Night at Bardot's, Musikfest, Snowmass Mammoth Fest, and Make Music Pasadena, and has sold out shows in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles.

The band has continued to develop its sound across a catalog of independently released albums. The third album, "Places," features a blend of folk-pop with acoustic guitar, violin, and electronic influences. "Wildflower" further refined this direction by combining indie-folk elements with acoustic intimacy, electronic textures, and orchestral arrangements. With more than 200 million streams across five full-length albums — including "Young," "Until I Live," "Places," "Wildflower," and "8th Wonder" — The National Parks has cultivated a dedicated global fanbase. The band released its sixth album, "Wild Spirit."

The National Parks transitioned to a duo when founding members Sydney Macfarlane and Cam Brannelly departed, with Brady Parks and Megan Parks continuing under the band's name and introducing a new musical arrangement for live performances. The National Parks is known for capturing the essence of the outdoors and adventure through indie folk-pop, cinematic instrumentation, and layered harmonies, inviting listeners into a world shaped by expansive landscapes and introspective storytelling.
