Daniel Webster Biography
Daniel Webster, ScD, MPH is one of the nation’s leading experts on the prevention of gun violence and firearm policy. He is a professor of Health Policy and Management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. As the director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Policy and Research, Dr. Webster examines some surprisingly hopeful possibilities that exist for a controversial public policy conundrum.
Dr. Webster is the co-editor and contributor to Reducing Gun Violence in America: Informing Policy with Evidence and Analysis, which stemmed from a symposium he organized at Johns Hopkins one month after the Newtown, Connecticut school shootings. He has published numerous articles on firearm policy, the prevention of gun violence, intimate partner violence, and youth violence prevention.
Co-Director of the Johns Hopkins Center for the Prevention of Youth Violence, Dr. Webster has studied violence prevention interventions including the effects of school-based curricula, firearm and alcohol policies, policing strategies, street outreach and conflict mediation. He has received numerous awards in his field, including the David Rall Award for Science-Based Advocacy in 2015 and the Baltimore City Health Equity Leadership Award in 2016.
Dr. Webster currently teaches Understanding and Preventing Violence and Graduate Seminar in Injury Research and Policy.
