Dr Rob Huizenga Biography

Dr. Rob Huizenga is the former L.A. Raider’s doctor and NFL Physician Society President. He is best known as Dr. H on the NBC show “The Biggest Loser”. He chronicled his experiences in “You’re OK, It's Just a Bruise: A Doctor's Sideline Secrets about Pro-Football's Most Outrageous Team”, a book that sparked the national debate on anabolic steroids and other ergogenic aids and was the basis for Oliver Stone’s “Any Given Sunday”. More recently, Huizenga authored “Where Did All the Fat Go? The WOW Prescription to Reach Your Ideal Weight and Stay There”, which presents an innovative approach to obesity based on observations of overweight professional athletes as well as four years of in-depth research on nearly 200 obese applicants to NBC's “Biggest Loser” TV show. The book combines cutting edge exercise, nutrition, psychology and group dynamics with old-fashioned hard work.

Dr. Huizenga graduated with honors in math and biology at the University of Michigan, where he was also an NCAA wrestler. Huizenga was then an immunology major and all-star rugby player at Harvard Medical School. He was chosen to serve as the Chief Medical Resident at Cedars Sinai Medical Center while also serving as a national medical correspondent for the FOX TV show “BreakAway”.

Huizenga has been featured as a health expert on CBS, NBC and ABC Evening News, the Today Show, Nightline and Larry King as well in the New York Times and other national print media. He has also served as a medical expert witness in multiple high profile legal cases, including the criminal and civil OJ Simpson, anabolic steroid and Botox trials. Huizenga has recurrent roles as writer, correspondent and advisor on numerous TV shows and movies; he has worked recently on seven seasons of “The Biggest Loser”, “Extreme MakeOver”, “American Gladiators”, “Work Out”, “Student Body”, “Dr Phil Weight Loss Challenge” and “Into the Wild”.

In more recent years, Dr. Huizenga has been working with actor Charlie Sheen to raise awareness on HIV. Huizenga was surprised by the apathy and lack of knowledge across the county regarding HIV and AIDS.
