Nicholas Thomas Wright, commonly known as N.T. Wright, is one of the most influential New Testament scholars and theologians of the contemporary era.

Though a retired Anglican bishop, Wright continues to write, teach, and speak internationally, remaining an active voice in both academic and ecclesial communities. His blend of scholarly excellence, pastoral insight, and theological creativity has secured his legacy as a central figure in 21st-century Christianity. Over the course of his prolific career, he has made significant contributions to Pauline studies, historical Jesus research, and the broader discourse on Christian doctrine and its relevance for the modern world.

Wright’s academic journey began at Exeter College, Oxford, where he read Classics and Theology. He went on to complete his D.Phil. at Merton College, Oxford, with a dissertation focused on Pauline theology—an area that would become a defining feature of his life's work. His early academic appointments included positions at McGill University in Montreal, Worcester College at Oxford, and later, leadership roles at the University of St Andrews and the University of Oxford. Most notably, he served as the Bishop of Durham from 2003 to 2010, a role that placed him among the most senior bishops in the Church of England. As a theologian, Wright is best known for his efforts to place the New Testament writings in their first-century Jewish and Greco-Roman context. He challenges traditional readings of Scripture, particularly those shaped by the Reformation and Enlightenment, urging readers to rediscover the deeply historical and narrative-driven message of early Christianity. His magnum opus, the multi-volume series "Christian Origins and the Question of God," includes pivotal works such as "The New Testament and the People of God," "Jesus and the Victory of God," "The Resurrection of the Son of God," and "Paul and the Faithfulness of God." These books collectively present a coherent vision of Jesus, Paul, and the early Church that emphasizes the continuity between the Old and New Testaments and highlights the political and eschatological dimensions of the Gospel.
