Angela E. Oh Biography

Angela E. Oh is a second generation Korean American, born and raised in Los Angeles. She works as an attorney/mediator and integrates the practice of resolving conflict with the practice of calming the mind. Her work is at the intersection of healing, law, and spirit.

The Gift of Compassion is a project that she and Ming Tu, an artist and her spouse, created to introduce meditation using art as a portal into silence. Their work has allowed them to engage with transition aged youth, former prisoners, community organizers and activists, defendants seeking diversion in the courts, and healers who work with individuals with serious medical conditions.

Oh is nationally recognized as a non-dualistic voice on race relations, holding space for identities beyond Black and White. As a mediator, her work centers on cases of discrimination, harassment, and hate incidents. She uses her extensive background in advocacy, community organizing, politics, and deep reflection as resources in her mediation practice.

Oh’s public service has included: Member of the LA City Human Relations Commission, Appointee to the seven-member Task Force to the One America Initiative on Race during the Clinton administration, Member of the Commission on Access and Fairness with the CA State Bar, several judicial nominations committees including Chair of U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer’s Federal Judicial Nominations Committee for the Central District of California, and President of the Korean American Bar Association of Southern California and Board member, Lawyers Mutual Insurance.

During her time as President of the Korean American Bar Association, Oh co-founded the Multi-cultural Bar Alliance in Los Angeles to promote equity, inclusion and diversity in the justice system. After the murder of George Floyd, she co-convened the Black/API Healing Circle, which continues to meet to this day. Oh holds a Master’s in Public Health degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Juris Doctorate degree from King Hall, UC Davis School of Law. Oh was ordained in 2001, Zen Buddhist, Rinzai Sect.
