Kim Katrin Biography
Kim Katrin is a Canadian writer, multidisciplinary artist, activist, consultant, and educator whose work focuses on justice, equity, and human rights. Recognized by The Root magazine as a young Black feminist to watch, Katrin has also been acknowledged in Canada as a national youth role model and as one of the 50 most loved gay Canadians. Katrin completed an artist residency under d'bi Young at AnitAfrika Theatre and participated in the Buddies in Bad Times Young Creator's Unit. Her multidisciplinary background in art, education, writing, and social entrepreneurship supports a career dedicated to community empowerment and systemic change.
Katrin is the co-founder and executive director of The People Project, an initiative advancing local and international community development for queer and trans people of color and their allies through alternative education, art-activism, and collaboration. Through The People Project, Katrin has consulted with organizations globally, developed and co-developed more than 80 resources and tools, and delivered hundreds of workshops on topics including race, gender, power, privilege, consent, creation, food, and entrepreneurship. Katrin is also one of the owners of Glad Day Book Shop in Toronto, the oldest LGBT bookstore in the world.
Katrin is a speaker in the fields of equity, social entrepreneurship, and holistic well-being, engaging audiences at institutions across Canada and the United States, both in-person and online. Katrin has spoken at universities including Princeton, Dartmouth, McGill, and Mount Allison, opened for cultural scholar Cornel West at UC Davis, and delivered keynote addresses at HBCUs Morehouse and Spelman's Pride events. Katrin has hosted events for the United Nations, served as Grand Marshal for Hudson, NY Pride, and hosted a session at Dreamforce. Katrin has also spoken at the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Katrin is dedicated to inclusivity and aims to foster curiosity and empathy in audiences, integrating historical context, statistical analysis, and current events. Katrin has created more than 70 workshop series on social change, anti-oppression, intersectionality, race, gender, leadership, youth, and young women's empowerment. Katrin has hosted events for the United Nations and participated in conversations with figures such as Grammy Award winner Erykah Badu and New York Times bestselling writer Roxane Gay. Katrin has studied data science and early childhood development at Harvard, broadening the ability to communicate complex ideas and deepening understanding of mental health issues.
