Juliet Macur Biography
Juliet Macur is an award-winning Sports of the Times columnist at The New York Times and a best-selling author. She joined the Times in 2004, as a feature writer and enterprise reporter in the sports department. After years of breaking news about Lance Armstrong’s doping, Ms. Macur wrote the best-selling biography, Cycle of Lies: The Fall of Lance Armstrong. In 2016, the Associated Press Sports Editors named her one of the top 10 sports columnists in the United States.
She came to The Times from The Dallas Morning News, where she primarily wrote long narratives and also covered news events, like the September 11 attacks in New York. Before that, she wrote about the NFL, Nascar and the Olympics for the Orlando Sentinel. She has won numerous awards in the Associated Press Sports Editors’ annual writing contest and also has been honored by the New York Press Club, the Society of Professional Journalists and the Newswomen’s Club of New York. Her work twice has appeared in the Best American Sports Writing series.
Ms. Macur received a B.A. degree in history from Barnard College and an M.S. degree, with honors, from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. In 2016, she was a fellow at the University of Chicago Institute of Politics, teaching a seminar on the intersection of sports and politics.
