Andy Garcia Biography
Andy Garcia has established himself as one of todays most talented and versatile actors. Known as a director's actor, he has worked successfully with many of the industry's most respected and celebrated directors. He has also established himself as a producer, composer, musician, and humanitarian - and as a director in his own right. He formed his own production company, CineSon Productions, in 1991.
One of Garcia's most memorable experiences was working with Francis Ford Coppola on The "Godfather III." He went into the movie as an actor, he says, and left a filmmaker. His performance in the film earned him Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for Best Supporting Actor. He has since made his directorial debut in "CineSons CachaoComo Su Ritmo No Hay Dos" ("Like His Rhythm There is No Other"), a feature-length documentary concert film about the co-creator of the Mambo.
His film acting debut came in 1983 in "Blue Skies Again," but he caught the critics attention three years later as a drug dealer in "8 Million Ways to Die." His major break came in Brian De Palma's "The Untouchables." He has since appeared in dozens of films including "Desperate Measures," "Hero," "Oceans Eleven," "When a Man Loves a Woman," "A Dark Truth" and "Max Steel."
Garcia received an Emmy nomination and a Golden Globe nomination for his starring role as the legendary Cuban trumpeter Arturo Sandoval in HBO's 2000 biopic "For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story." Garcia was executive producer of the film and also produced the soundtrack and the Emmy-winning score.
In addition to numerous other awards, Garcia has been honored with a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Star of the Year Award from the National Association of Theater Owners, a PRISM Award, a Harvard University Foundation Award, and a Hispanic Heritage Award for the Arts.
In 2020, Garcia signed on for a main role in the ABC drama pilot “Rebel."
