Tove Lo

Tove Lo is a Swedish singer-songwriter known for her confessional pop anthems “Habits (Stay High)” and “Talking Body.” Hailed by Rolling Stone as “Sweden’s darkest pop export,” she built her reputation on emotionally raw, sexually candid songwriting paired with sleek electronic production influenced by ’80s pop, grunge and contemporary EDM. Her unfiltered, autobiographical lyrics have earned her the long-running nickname “the saddest girl in Sweden.”

Raised in Djursholm, a suburb north of Stockholm, Lo attended the music-focused Rytmus Musikergymnasiet, where she befriended future members of Icona Pop. She formed the rock band Tremblebee in 2006, then shifted her focus to songwriting after the group disbanded. In 2011, she signed a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell Music and quickly found success writing for other artists while independently recording her own material. She signed with Universal-affiliated labels in 2013, setting the stage for her solo breakthrough.

Her debut album, “Queen of the Clouds,” arrived in 2014 and introduced her signature mix of vulnerability and pop precision. The album spawned “Habits (Stay High),” a sleeper hit that peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became a defining pop song of the decade. She followed with “Lady Wood” in 2016, led by “Cool Girl,” and “Blue Lips” in 2017, both of which expanded her dark, cinematic pop universe.

Lo continued to evolve with “Sunshine Kitty” in 2019 and “Dirt Femme” in 2022, the latter earning widespread acclaim for its bold, liberated tone and singles such as “No One Dies From Love.” In 2024, she released “Queen of the Clouds X,” a reimagined anniversary project celebrating her debut era. Alongside her own work, Tove Lo has remained a sought-after collaborator and songwriter, co-writing songs such as “Love Me Like You Do” and “Homemade Dynamite,” and working with artists including Alesso, Flume, Nick Jonas and Coldplay. Known for pushing pop’s emotional and thematic boundaries, she remains one of Sweden’s most distinctive and influential modern exports.
