Robert De Niro

Robert De Niro is an American actor, producer, and director, best known for his landmark collaborations with filmmaker Martin Scorsese. One of the most acclaimed performers in film history, he has received two Academy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, the Cecil B. DeMille Award, and the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award. He was honored with the Kennedy Center Honor in 2009 and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama in 2016.

De Niro first drew major attention in “Bang the Drum Slowly” (1973) and quickly established his reputation with Scorsese’s “Mean Streets.” He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for “The Godfather Part II” and the Best Actor Oscar for his transformative performance as Jake LaMotta in “Raging Bull.” His other Oscar-nominated roles include “Taxi Driver,” “The Deer Hunter,” and “Cape Fear.” He also earned Golden Globe nominations for “New York, New York,” “Midnight Run,” “Analyze This,” and “Meet the Parents.”

In recent years, De Niro has continued to balance dramatic and comedic work, starring in “About My Father” and reuniting with Scorsese for “Killers of the Flower Moon,” which earned him a supporting actor nomination at the 96th Academy Awards. On television, he portrayed Bernie Madoff in HBO’s “The Wizard of Lies,” earning an Emmy nomination, and received additional Emmy recognition for producing “When They See Us” and portraying Robert Mueller on “Saturday Night Live.”

Beyond acting, De Niro co-founded TriBeCa Productions with Jane Rosenthal in 1989 and launched the Tribeca Film Festival in 2002. Six of his films have been selected for the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
