Lou Marinoff

Lou Marnioff, a Commonwealth Scholar originally from Canada, earned his doctorate in Philosophy of Science at University College London. After holding research fellowships at University College and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, he became a Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of British Columbia, and was also Moderator of Ethics. He is currently an Associate Professor, and Chair of the Philosophy Department, at The City College of New York. Lou has been a philosophical practitioner for ten years. His clients include individuals, groups and organizations. He is a past president of the American Society for Philosophy, Counseling and Psychotherapy (ASPCP), and founding president of the American Philosophical Practitioners Associations (APPA).

He is a Fellow of the Institute for Local Government at the University of Arizona, and a Fellow of the World Economic Forum (Davos). Lou publishes regularly in decision theory, ethics, philosophical practice, and other scholarly fields. He is author of an international bestseller, Plato Not Prozac (HarperCollins, NY, 1999), aimed at a popular audience and published in twenty languages. His latest book, Philosophical Practice (Academic Press, NY, 2001), provides a more technical "insider's view" of the profession. Lou's philosophical practice and pioneering endeavors have received national and international media attention. He is currently writing a new popular book, Life is Not a Disease, to be published worldwide in English by Bloomsbury (New York and London). In demand as a speaker and practitioner to all kinds of groups and organizations, Lou travels far and wide, helping to promote a philosophical renaissance in the global village.
