James Blake

James Blake is a Grammy Award-winning British singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer known for his fusion of electronic music, soul, and post-dubstep. Blake began his career as a dubstep producer and later studied popular music at Goldsmiths College in London, where he and friends hosted Bass Society music nights featuring UK artists such as Distance, Skream, and Benga.

Blake's recording career started with the 12-inch release "Air & Lack Thereof" on the Hemlock label, which received support from BBC Radio 1 DJ Gilles Peterson. He gained wider attention with the extended plays "The Bells Sketch," "CMYK," and "Klavierwerke," before signing with A&M Records and releasing his self-titled debut album "James Blake," which reached the top 10 of the UK Albums Chart. Blake has contributed as a producer and collaborator to albums including Frank Ocean's "Blonde," Kendrick Lamar's "DAMN.," JAY-Z's "4:44," and Beyoncé's "Lemonade." His feature on "King's Dead" from "Black Panther: The Album" earned triple platinum status and a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance. Blake's collaborations span artists such as Bon Iver, Chance the Rapper, Vince Staples, Jay Rock, Future, Travis Scott, Rosalía, Labrinth, Jay-Z, Slowthai, Beyoncé, Anderson Paak, Kid Cudi, Philip Bailey, Stevie Wonder, Dave, André 3000, and Frank Ocean.

Blake's third and fourth albums, "The Colour in Anything" and "Assume Form," received positive reviews, with "Assume Form" entering the US Billboard 200 at number 21. His fifth album, "Friends That Break Your Heart," was followed by "Wind Down," an ambient project created with Endel, and "Playing Robots Into Heaven," which marked a return to electronic and experimental styles. "Playing Robots Into Heaven" drew from techno and dancehall influences. "Trying Times," his first self-released album, arrived after his departure from Republic Records, reflecting his intent to connect more directly with his audience.

Blake has spoken about the impact of mental health on his music and life. His work has received recognition including the Mercury Prize, multiple Grammy Awards and nominations, a Latin Grammy Award, and Brit Award nominations.
