Gillian Anderson

Gillian Anderson is an American-British actress, writer, and activist whose career spans television, film, and stage. After graduating from The Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago, Anderson began her acting career on stage in New York City, appearing in the Off-Broadway production "Absent Friends" and "The Philanthropist" at Long Wharf Theatre before moving to Los Angeles.

Anderson gained international recognition as FBI agent Dana Scully on the science fiction series "The X-Files" on Fox, a role that earned her both Emmy and Golden Globe awards. She reprised the role in the films "The X-Files: Fight the Future" and "The X-Files: I Want to Believe," as well as in a revival series. Anderson has also delivered notable performances in the period film "The House of Mirth," the Dickens adaptations "Bleak House" and "Great Expectations," and the crime series "The Fall."

Her work in television drama continued with her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in "The Crown" on Netflix, earning her a Primetime Emmy, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild Award, and Critics' Choice Award. Anderson starred in the Netflix film "Scoop," portraying journalist Emily Maitlis in a dramatization of the Newsnight interview with Prince Andrew. Over her career, Anderson has received two Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globes, and four Screen Actors Guild Awards. On stage, she earned an Olivier Award nomination for her role as Nora in "A Doll's House" at Donmar Warehouse and received another Olivier nomination and a Best Actress win at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards for her role as Blanche DuBois in "A Streetcar Named Desire."

Anderson's film and television credits include the Netflix drama "The Abandons," Channel 4 series "Trespasses," "The Salt Path" with Jason Isaacs, and "Tron: Ares." She is also an author; her book "Want" became a New York Times bestseller, and she co-authored the Sunday Times bestseller "WE: A Manifesto for Women Everywhere" with Jennifer Nadel. Anderson is recognized for her activism, serving as a Global Ambassador for War Child UK, supporting Women for Women International, and co-founding the mentor/mentee charity SAYes.

Anderson was appointed an honorary Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for her services to drama and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
