Players and fans alike are drawn to the Unabomber's Persona. A "genius" player, one of his own "speak", his "Phil-osophical" style and theatrical table manners make him player everyone wants to see. Phil's tournament record include a WPT First Place win, and top ten places in a variety of professional tournaments. Phil is one of the WPT Bad Boys of Poker and will teach you his own version of table manners and professional play in the Going All In Poker DVD releasing in November 2004. And, he can be seen in November on the Ultimate Poker Challenge.

Phil Laak may be a newer face in the poker world, but he is definitely a player to remember. He received his nickname, "the Unabomber", because he always wears a hooded sweatshirt (hood up) at the table. His appearances on the World Poker Tour have made him one of the most popular players on the circuit. This Dublin, Ireland native first lived in the Bay Area but now calls Los Angeles home.

Phil placed sixth at the World Poker Tour at the Bicycle Casino in 2003 and twelfth at the Bellagio WPT in 2003. The finish that will be remembered is his first place victory at the WPT Invitation 2004. He first became interested in tournament poker because of the competition, test of patience and the many various strategies that come into play during the different phases of tournaments. He believes one of the key features that helps him play poker (live action and tournament) is his ability to avoid being too involved in the actual outcome - win or lose. He examines whether he is playing well, not if he is winning or losing. He says, "Playing well is what drives me. Not winning.”

Phil has had a variety of past jobs, including being a repo man and broker of sports bets; now he is a part time stock market speculator and single family home real estate investor. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. One of Phil's mottos for life is "Living well is all about optimizing, and achieving a balance between fun, freedom and fulfillment."
