Cyndy Violette
There is a very small group of names at the top of the list of the world's top female poker players, and among the best known is Cyndy Violette.
Cyndy Violette was born in Queens NY. Her family relocated to Las Vegas when she was 12 years old. As a child, Cyndy loved to play cards on the kitchen table with her Uncle Ross. As an adult, the first time she tested out her skills in a casino was when she was pregnant with her daughter, Shannon.
After short stints in dealing blackjack and poker, Cyndy went to a Lake Tahoe tournament in 1984. She built a small bankroll at the tournament which was the proof she needed to decide to become a professional poker player. After winning a Golden Nugget tournament (7 stud – $74,000 most money ever won by a woman at the time), and being featured in a playboy article as well as many other articles and tv shows, she was swept off her feet by her second husband, which caused her to take a hiatus from poker for two years.
On a trip to Caesars Palace in 1990 Violette couldn’t resist entering a tournament and won it and the $62,000 prize. One paper’s headline stated that she was “back with a poker vengeance!” She decided to return to poker out of her deep love for the game, still maintaining her residence in Washington State, but also splitting her time in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
After getting divorced in 1993, Cyndy heard they were legalizing poker in Atlantic City. Violette spent the summer with her residence at the Taj Majal, and come Spring decided to set up shop there in 1994. She continued to travel back and forth to Vegas and California, always attending the World Series of Poker in for a few months every year. She bought a house in the Atlantic City area and has made it a haven for her many books and transformational tapes and healthy vegetarian cooking.
In 2004 I achieved one of my dreams. I won the 7 card stud high-low tournament of the World Series of Poker. I am proud of my World Series bracelet and the title as Poker champion.
In the 2005 World Series of Poker Tournament I made three final tables, and six cashes total. I was featured on "The Superstars of Poker" on Fox Sports Net, "Poker Royale Pro/Celebrity Tournament" on the Game Show Network, and the World Series of Poker Tournament on ESPN. I am currently creating a "Positive Poker Affirmations" CD.
Today, with the poker industry going full speed ahead, I spend most of my time living in Las Vegas and Los Angeles, where I regularly play in cash games. I try to attend most of the major tournaments and always find time to work on my line of Poker inspired clothing and motivational items.
