Detailed Biography of Andres Cantor

|
Andres Cantor is the most recognized soccer personality in the United States. During the 1990, 1994 and 1998 World Cups, Andrés broadcast the play-by-play of every World Cup game for Univision. He is known not only for his distinctive style, but also for his encyclopedic knowledge of and passion for the sport. His work has brought him multiple honors, including the 1994 Emmy for Individual Achievement and 1994 Sports Personality of the Year award of the American Sportscaster 's Association. He was chosen as "Best of the Mic", in a recent Sports Illustrated article and has received two Lifetime Achievement Awards, one from "Minorities in Broadcasting" and the other by Broadcasting and Cable Magazine. His most recent honors include appointments to the FIFA Media Committee and to the U.S. Soccer Foundation Board of Directors. His trademark cry of "GOOOOAL" has become internationally famous and led to his appearances in 1994 and 1998 on the "Late Show with David Letterman" as well as on other programs in the U.S. and abroad. As evidence that Andrés Cantor transcends all linguistic and cultural barriers, in 1998 he was named the country's best soccer play-by-play announcer by Soccer America magazine in a national poll of its readers, beating out his colleagues from ABC and ESPN, among others, by a wide margin. In 2000, Andrés made the cross-over to English broadcasting as NBC's play-by-play soccer announcer during the Sydney Olympic Games. He is currently the voice of soccer for the Telemundo network where he broadcasts approximately 150 games per year. In 2002 Andrés broadcast the 2002 FIFA World Cup on Fútbol de Primera, of which he is a founding partner, and was heard on 104 radio stations in the United States. Fútbol de Primera's related World Cup programming, also anchored by Andrés, was available in a total of 7 countries. As one of the most recognized personalities in the Hispanic world, Andrés has been the principal figure for different advertising campaigns involving companies such as Pepsi, Snickers, GM American Airlines, Budweiser, Allstate, etc.
