Phillip Lader Biography

He is Senior Adviser to Morgan Stanley International and a director of several other global corporations, the preeminent think-tank RAND Corporation, and the British Museum.Ambassador Lader’s international public and private sector roles have also included White House Deputy Chief of Staff, Head of the U.S. Small Business Administration, Deputy Director of the Office of Management & Budget, president of universities in America and Australia, and senior executive positions with the financier Sir James Goldsmith and in various industries.

Noted for his humor, in-depth preparation and inspirational style, Ambassador Lader has addressed trans-Atlantic audiences ranging from the American Bar Association’s 2000 Convention in the U.N.’s General Assembly Hall to the British Institute of Directors’ General Conference in Royal Albert Hall to state chambers of commerce and local world affairs councils. He has received honorary doctorates from 14 American and European universities and the Royal Society of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce awarded him the 2001 Benjamin Franklin Medal.

In his speeches, Ambassador Lader draws on his personal experience at the highest levels of government, business, diplomacy and academe. He is uniquely qualified to discuss current international, economic and political issues, business strategy and leadership and the role of ethics and personal faith in contemporary culture. He speaks frequently to business, university and community groups on the intersection of the revolutions of technology, globalization and entrepreneurship.

Ambassador and Mrs. Lader and their two daughters, Mary-Catherine and Whitaker, divide their time between the U.S. and the U.K. and maintain their permanent residence in Charleston, South Carolina.
